Experimental Peptides in Clinical Research
Selected research-stage peptide examples, distinguishing completed human findings from laboratory mechanisms and unverified clinical or regional approval claims.
Experimental is an editorial description, not a formal regulatory approval category. A biomarker response does not establish treatment benefit. An approved medicine may also be investigated for an unapproved use; trial phase alone does not determine certainty.
Selected Research-Stage Examples
Research stage, human findings and regulatory authorization are separate questions. The examples below do not imply an active clinical pipeline or confirmed approval status in every country.
AOD-9604
A modified fragment of the C-terminal region of human growth hormone.Stage: Historical obesity development program.
Mechanism: Investigated for effects on fat metabolism; a mechanism is not evidence of weight-loss benefit.
FDA’s 2024 review reported no significant weight-loss advantage over placebo in a 536-participant study and that obesity development was terminated.
No FDA-approved AOD-9604 medicine is documented in the cited review. WADA lists AOD-9604 in S2, not S0.

CJC-1295
A synthetic growth hormone-releasing hormone analog; the published study evaluated the long-acting drug-affinity-complex form.Stage: Completed short-duration healthy-volunteer studies.
Mechanism: Growth hormone and IGF-1 responses.
The published study found sustained increases in GH and IGF-1. It did not establish benefits for injury recovery, body composition or longevity. Products called “no DAC” should not inherit these findings.
FDA describes safety and characterization concerns. WADA lists CJC-1295 in S2.

Ipamorelin
A synthetic ghrelin-receptor agonist peptide.Stage: Completed postoperative ileus proof-of-concept trial.
Mechanism: Ghrelin receptor signaling and gastrointestinal recovery.
A randomized bowel-resection study enrolled 117 patients. Time to first tolerated meal did not differ significantly from placebo (p = 0.15). This does not establish benefit for other marketed uses.
FDA identifies safety concerns and limitations in available information. WADA lists ipamorelin in S2.

Semax
Heptapeptide MEHFPGP: ACTH(4–7) extended with Pro-Gly-Pro.Stage: Mechanistic research and published clinical reports require outcome-specific assessment.
Mechanism: Proposed neurobiological effects; no single clinically validated mechanism is established here.
The cited serum experiment studied enkephalin degradation outside a clinical treatment trial. It cannot establish stroke recovery or cognitive benefit. Regional approval claims have not been verified in this review.
FDA reports limited safety information. U.S. approval is not documented by the cited FDA source; no claim about approval in other jurisdictions is made.

Selank
Heptapeptide TKPRPGP: tuftsin extended with Pro-Gly-Pro.Stage: Mechanistic research; clinical effectiveness needs a separate assessment.
Mechanism: Proposed neuroimmune effects, not an established treatment outcome.
The cited serum experiment is laboratory evidence, not proof of relief from anxiety. This page does not verify claims of absent sedation, dependence or superiority to established therapies.
FDA describes limited safety information. Regional medicine authorization has not been verified here.

Epitalon
Synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly; distinct from the epithalamin extract.Stage: Laboratory research and limited human reports.
Mechanism: Telomerase-related hypotheses require separation from clinical longevity outcomes.
The sources checked do not establish that synthetic epitalon extends human lifespan. Findings involving epithalamin cannot be treated as trials of the same intervention.
FDA describes limited safety information. Marketing claims are not evidence of an approved anti-aging indication.
KPV
Lys-Pro-Val: the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-MSH, residues 11–13.Stage: Cellular and animal inflammation research.
Mechanism: The cited study investigated PepT1 uptake and inflammatory signaling; these findings do not establish a human treatment mechanism.
The 2008 study used cell lines and mouse colitis models. Human-derived cells are not human clinical trials, and the study does not establish treatment effectiveness in patients.
FDA states that it has not identified human exposure data for KPV; that is a statement about the agency’s available information, not proof that no person has ever received it.

Surrogate Biomarkers vs Clinical Efficacy
A change in GH or IGF-1 establishes a measured biological response in the studied setting. It does not by itself establish improved symptoms, function or survival. Check whether the proposed clinical outcome was actually measured, and whether a credible comparison supports the claim.
