Peptide Data & Reports

Original datasets and reports from Inside Peptides, free to reuse with credit. Built from our sourced peptide profiles and the ClinicalTrials.gov registry.

What the dataset contains

Each row is one peptide with a published Inside Peptides profile. The 56 rows cover 20 FDA-approved peptide medicines, 12 investigational drugs and native hormones, and 24 peptides that are not FDA approved but are widely discussed or sold online. For each one the file records three kinds of information:

  • Our editorial judgements: the evidence grade, assigned under our published methodology and checked against the sources listed on each profile.
  • Official status: U.S. FDA approval status and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List section, as recorded on each profile with its source.
  • Registry counts: how many interventional trials ClinicalTrials.gov lists for the peptide, and how many are active, recruiting, completed, completed with results posted, or stopped early.

Every row links back to the profile, where each statement carries a citation, so any figure in the file can be traced to a primary source.

Trial activity by research category

A first look at what the data shows. Metabolic peptides, led by the GLP-1 drug family, dominate trial activity; categories made up mostly of unapproved peptides have very few registered trials.

Trial counts exclude native hormones (Insulin, GLP-1, GIP, Ghrelin and Peptide YY), whose names match too many unrelated studies to count reliably.

How it is built

  1. Profiles first. Editors research each peptide, cite primary sources and assign an evidence grade using the five evidence levels. Regulatory status is checked against FDA records.
  2. Registry snapshot. A script queries the ClinicalTrials.gov API for each peptide's drug names, brand names and development codes, counting interventional studies only. The search terms are listed in the trial tracker.
  3. One source of truth. The report, the evidence grid and these downloads are all generated from the same data at build time, so the numbers on the pages and in the files cannot drift apart.
  4. Dated editions. File names carry the edition year, and the trial snapshot date is stated in every file. Trial counts are refreshed before each update.

Empty trial fields mean we did not collect counts for that peptide, not that there are none. See the report's methodology.

Trial-level file: active trials 2026

One row per active trial, 652 rows: the peptide, NCT number, phase, status, lead sponsor, enrolment and expected primary completion date, as registered on ClinicalTrials.gov. The JSON dataset also carries the exact query expression used for each peptide, so the counts can be reproduced.

Questions the data can and cannot answer

Good uses include comparing how much clinical research exists for different peptides, checking whether a peptide described as promising has ever been tested in a registered trial, and tracking how trial activity changes between editions.

It cannot tell you whether a peptide works or is safe for a person. A trial count measures research activity, not results, and an evidence grade summarises the main uses studied, not every claim made in marketing. For individual decisions, the profile and a licensed clinician are the right starting points.
